In this interview, Dr. Woeller has a conversation with Erica Peirson, ND who is naturopathic physician with years of experience working with children with Down Syndrome, autism, and other special needs conditions. Individuals with Down Syndrome have unique characteristics linked to their genetic condition, but like many other children with special needs they too respond positively to naturopathic principles of health which include diet, nutrient optimization, and removing or reducing the barriers to healing such as environmental toxin exposure. A person’s genetics are only one factor to their potential for optimal health, and Dr. Peirson discusses how she approaches each child with a special needs condition through her functional medicine training.
Dr. Erica Peirson is a Naturopathic Physician with 20 years of clinical experience and specialized training through the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (FMAPS-certified).
Her passion for pediatric care was sparked by the birth of her son and further shaped by 14 years of work at Shriners Hospital for Children during her undergraduate and medical education.
Dr. Peirson has dedicated her career to optimizing the health of children with neurodevelopmental and genetic conditions, using a functional and biomedical approach. She lectures nationally and internationally, sharing her expertise with clinicians and families alike. Through her telemedical private practice, she serves patients from around the globe. She is also the proud mother of a thriving 17-year-old son with mosaic Down syndrome who has directly benefited from her evidence-based, individualized care.
